- Course objectives
- Provide a solid knowledge of Quebec literature, its cultural context and periodization. Provide and develop elements and skills for analyzing and presenting literary texts.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important features of Quebec literature;
- identify and characterize the main characters of Quebec poetry, prose and drama;
- write an essay (commentaire composé) comparing 3 outstanding works in this field. - Syllabus
- I. French period: 1534-1760 II.Political and cultural break: 1760-1837 III.Cultural and literary revival: 1837-1930 IV. On the road to modernity: 1930-1960 V.Quiet Revolution: from modernity to postmodern plurality: 1960-1970 VI.Postmodern openness: feminist literature 1970-1990 VII. Migrant literature: 1980-2000 VIII. Ensauvagement": Amerindian (and Quebecois) authors: 1990-2020 IX. Conclusion: methodological assessment methods of analysis of literary works.
