Abstract
The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with the background of the development of the italian literary criticism At the end of this course, students will be able to explain the functioning of basic methods of literary criticism.
Key topics
History of italian literary criticism. Traditional literary criticism. Modern literary criticism. Formalism. Structuralism in literary theory and literary criticism. Narratology. Semiotic literary criticism. Sociological literary criticism. Psychologically-oriented literary criticism. Stylistic criticism. Textual criticism. Literature from comparatistic points of view.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Lecture: explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
Oral examination: an interview on a theme resulting from the discussed thematic ranges including a practical analysis of a text.
