Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the current panorama of Catalan cinema. After an introductory insight into the history of Catalan cinema, a screening of films by contemporary Catalan directors will follow. As the course is open to students outside the Catalan Language and Literature course, the films screened will always be available with Czech or English subtitles, and in exceptional cases with Czech dubbing.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to: - Recognize some Catalan films and film directors. - Critically analyze Catalan cinema in the context of European cinema.

Assessment methods
Attendance at the course is required, a maximum of 3 absences without excuse are allowed during the entire semester. The course concludes with an essay (minimum 12,000 characters, approx. 6-7 pages) in which the student critically evaluates at least five films/series of his/her choice from all the films/series screened during the semester.
