Prerequisites
The expected entry level of language knowledge and skills of the learners is B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. For successful completion of the course, learners' language knowledge and skills should correspond to language level B2.

Course objectives
Acquisition of language competence at B2 level, specialising in the development of intercultural competence in the area of German-speaking countries, the consolidation of grammatical correctness especially in productive language skills (speaking, writing), the development of independent writing competence and towards creativity. The course is comprehensively understood as a preparation for the study of German philology. a) Students achieve level B2 in all four skills. b) Students are able to work with sources. c) Students are familiar with the media landscape in Austria and Germany. d) Students have a command of the subjunctive I+II, sentence structure/syntax and the passive voice. e) Students have geographical, cultural and literary knowledge of Austria and Germany.
Learning outcomes
The students will be able to speak independently on selected topics in the field of culture and society of German-speaking countries on the basis of preparation (reading, listening), to read and productively process literary texts written in German (reviews, presentations, free writing, etc.), to discuss selected topics from the course, and to discuss them in writing (e.g. in the form of a summary etc.). Last but not least, they will be able to work with German both within the framework of conventional language use (grammatical correctness) and creatively.

Grammar school vs. university; media landscape in Austria; media landscape in Germany; discussion and argumentation; reading a novel; visit to the Moravian Regional Library; subjunctive I and II; passive voice; sentence structure; AI in German studies; phonetics; professional communication; geography of Austria; geography of Germany

Regular attendance (maximum of three unexcused absences); portfolio; final oral examination
