Course objectives
The main characters of the novels from the corpus of the course intertextually refer to the biblical characters, though they are found in new contexts of their own fictional worlds. The aim of this course is to answer to a question in what way and why the contemporary German authors make use of biblical references in their novels. What is the function and meaning of the biblical intertextuality in contemporary German novels after 1990? In this course should the students discuss about the novels on the basis of the lecture of this books and the theory of the intertextuality by Broich and Pfister.
Learning outcomes
The students should be able to identify, describe, categorize and interpret the biblical intertextuality in literary texts. They should also be able to differentiate the references to the religion in literary texts and to write a thesispaper.
