- Course objectives
- The course aims to offer students a comprehensive view of the current social and cultural situation in Spain (issues of nationalism, migration, unemployment, status of women and marginalized communities, etc.). However, since the course is offered within the translation specialization, its content and teaching methods are designed to develop not only cultural knowledge but also translation competencies alongside it.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will gain an overview of the current social situation in Spain, develop their language and cultural knowledge, and enhance their translation competencies.
- Syllabus
- Nationalism and regional autonomy.
- Migration.
- Economic crisis in 2008. Unemployment.
- Gender equality and women's rights.
- Environmental issues, climate crisis.
- Tourism and sustainability.
- Political changes: rise of new political parties.

- Teaching methods
- Teaching takes place through a combination of lectures and student presentations. In class, discussions are held on various topics, and homework preparation is also required.

- To successfully complete the course, it is necessary to: a) complete ongoing assignments, b) actively participate in classes, and c) present and submit a portfolio.
