Course objectives
The course is designed to introduce students to the editorial process, its individual stages and the role of the editor in it when preparing different types of texts. In addition, students will also be introduced to the functioning of the book market and book publishing will be outlined in a historical perspective, including current trends related to new technologies.
Learning outcomes
During the course, the student will gain an overview of the basic aspects of editorial work, learn practical skills in proofreading or creating accompanying texts. As a future translator, he or she will be able to take a more comprehensive view of the translated text and his or her role in the book publishing process.

  • - The book market, its structure and the functioning of publishing houses - Books as a medium and their historical transformation - The book's journey from author to reader - The role of the editor in the book publishing process - Editing and the requirements of different types of texts - Proofreading in manuscript and typesetting - Publishing data and paratexts (copyright, edition, ISBN, annotation, author's medallions) - Visual aspects of the book - Basics of typography - Alternatives to the classic publishing process (self publishing, e-books, audiobooks)

Teaching methods
Teaching combines on-line lectures with practical work of students in the classroom and in home preparation. It assumes their active involvement and independent work.
Assessment methods
The final grade will be based on the midterm assignments turned in during the semester: Publishing texts: 20% of the grade - Editorial proposal: 40% of the grade - Presentation of editorial proposal: 10% of the grade - Proofreading: 30% of the grade
