- Abstract
- The aim of this course is to inform students about the basic psychological functioning disorders, about the systematic classification of this disorders, and about their continuity with the non-pathological parts (characteristics/processes) of the mind.
- Learning outcomes
- Students are able to:
- identify the basic psychological functioning disorders;
- describe the systematic classification of the basic psychological functioning disorders;
- distinguish disorders of the basic psychological functioning from the non-pathological characteristics/processes of the mind. - Key topics
Psychopathology – introduction; norms and mental health versus mental illness; the roles of psychiatry and psychology in the care of people with mental disorders; four historical milestones in psychiatry; the scope of general and special psychopathology and psychiatry; organization of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic
Causes of mental disorders – biological aspects, psychosocial and transcendental aspects, a holistic approach in psychiatry

Disorders of attention and memory
Disorders of thinking
Disorders of volition and disorders of behavior
Disorders of drives
Disorders of speech and disorders of intelligence
Disorders of consciousness and personality disorders

- Teaching is realized as lectures which contains some practical examples or case studies.
- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
- Teaching proceeds two teaching hours once a week. This course is completed with a credit and an exam. Finalization is the standard oral exam. Psychopathology is a part of the B.A. examination. Completed by a written test.
