Prerequisites
The course originates from knowledge of personality psychology and other basic fields of psychology as well as knowledge of clinical psychology. It also uses knowledge from the field of psychological assessment.

Course objectives
At the end of the course, the students should know major classes of psychotherapeutic treatments and have an overview of psychotherapeutic methods. The discipline Psychotherapy I gets students familiar with indications of psychotherapy and its position in the clinical practice as well as with demands laid on a psychotherapist. The course also involves gaining some practical knowledge of application of psychotherapy in selected major psychotherapeutic classes. Teaching includes lectures a well as practical training. Lectures cover general psychotherapy, while practical training focuses on applied psychotherapy.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to: • be familiar with the basic theoretical background of adult psychotherapy; • understand the system of psychotherapeutic care in the Czech Republic; • understand the practical application of psychotherapy in major classes of psychotherapeutic treatments.

  • 1. Psychotherapy as a discipline, types of psychotherapy;
  • 2. Sigmund Freud and origins of psychoanalysis;
  • 3. Basic concepts of psychoanalysis (personality structure, phases of psychosexual development etc.);
  • 4. Basic methods of psychoanalysis (dream interpretation, method of free association etc.);
  • 5. Current trends in psychoanalysis;
  • 6. Alfred Adler and individual psychology;
  • 7. Carl Gustav Jung and analytical psychology;
  • 8. Leopold Szondi and fate analysis;
  • 9. Principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy, its founders in the world and in the Czech Republic;
  • 10. Basic terms of the psychodynamic psychotherapy (transference, empathy etc.);
  • 11. Forms of psychodynamic psychotherapy, therapeutic dialogue;
  • 12. Psychological mechanisms of changes in the psychodynamic group psychotherapy;
  • 13. Elements of group dynamics in psychodynamic group psychotherapy;
  • 14. Types of groups in psychodynamic group psychotherapy, basic roles in the group;
  • 15. Development phases of the therapeutic groups in the psychodynamic group psychotherapy;
  • 16. Special techniques in the psychodynamic group psychotherapy (art therapy, music therapy etc.);
  • 17. Philosophical and psychological aspects of Person-Centered Approach (PCA);
  • 18. Basic terms of the PCA, actualizing tendency, Self-actualization, etc.;
  • 19. Personality theory in the PCA – Self-theory, theory of therapy and therapeutic change;
  • 20. Theory of fully functioning person and theory of interpersonal relationships in the PCA;
  • 21. Empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence in the PCA;
  • 22. PCA therapist and his role;
  • 23. Behavioral psychotherapy;
  • 24. Cognitive psychotherapy;
  • 25. Basic principles of the cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychological difficulties from the point of view of the CBT;
  • 26. Basic therapeutic techniques in the CBT;
  • 27. Communication therapy of Paul Watzlawick;
  • 28. Gestalt therapy;
  • 29. Daseinsanalysis, humanistic psychotherapy;
  • 30. Transpersonal psychotherapy, positive psychotherapy, integrative psychotherapy of Ferdinand and Jiřina Knoblochs;
  • 31. Jacob Moreno and psychodrama;
  • 32. Life and work of Viktor E. Frankl, his followers;
  • 33. Basic principles of logotherapy;
  • 34. Techniques in logotherapy (paradoxical intention, dereflection etc.);
  • 35. Family therapy;
  • 36. Personality of the therapist in psychotherapy.
