Course objectives
The history of Croat literature from 90 th of 19. Century until the end of the Second World War. Phenomena of Croat “Moderna”. Poetry, prose and drama in the period of “Moderna”. Philosophical and ideological movements in Croat “Moderna”. The new ideas in Art. Expressionism in Croat literature. The problem of Avant-garde. Miroslav Krleža. Croat Literature and Europe. The 30 th in Croat culture and literature. Characteristics of different schools and movements. The comparison of national literatures in ex- Yugoslavia. The characteristics of important authors. At the end of the course students should be able to explain the history of Croat literature in this period and interpret the literature in certain level.

  • 1. Croat naturalism. 2. The realism and Croat poetry. 3. The characteristics of Croat “Moderna”. 4. Croat drama (Vojnović, Begović, Kosor, Lovrić). 5. The development of poetry in Croat “Moderna”. 6. The movements in prose in Croat “ Moderna”. 7. The beginning of expressionism and his philosophical and ideological context. 8. Miroslav Krleža. 9. The impressionist tradition in Croat literature. 10. The Croat literature between the two World Wars. 11. The “social” literature. The literature and the ideology. 12. The poetry during the Second World War. 13. Literal movements in Croatia after the Second World War.
