Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to introduce students into current worldwide problems of production and archival storage of information, its retrieval and distribution to end clients. The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with work of information professionals from beginning of whole process (reference interview) over retrieval, its methods and tools to final delivery of (value added) information packet to client.

  • 1) Introduction, information overload 2) Bibliographic software, DMS 3) Reference interview, evaluation and verification of information 4) Mediation of information services (legislation) 5) Leading players (Google and "the others"), meta search engines, utility, interesting SE 6) Advanced methods of retrieval (tips and tricks), visual representation 7) Invisible web, deep web, grey literature, patent information 8) Competitive Intelligence (tools, methods and databases for CI) 9) Information behaviour and information audit 10) Information resources for HR, PES 11) Information resources for information professionals, professional association and organizations 12) New information professions (consultant, brokers, CIO)

Assessment methods
For successful termination of this course students have to create an industry analysis with their knowledge from lessons. Document should involve basic economic information, some analysis and bring some added value, so they can learn how to work with information in business and industry world.
