Prerequisites
Participation in the course requires the knowledge of Czech at the secondary-school level, higher level of knowledge (including dialectology and elementary historical grammar) is naturally an advantage.

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to describe and explain adequately the specific features of spontaneous communication in written and spoken forms and to provide their proper linguistic interpretation. The knowledge acquired can be used for cultivation of their own utterances or for evaluation of spontaneous utterances addressed to them. Besides, they are able to deal with specific features of contemporary fiction (including translated works) reflecting spontaneity.

  • Spontaneity and standard in a text.
  • Signals of spontaneity in a spoken text.
  • Spontaneity in a written text – types, genres.
  • Spontaneity and “spontaneity”.
  • Stylization of spontaneity in the language of media.
  • Stylization of spontaneity in fiction.
  • Possibilities of preserving the illusion of spontaneity in the dialogue of dramas.
  • Stylized spontaneity as a problem for translators.

Teaching methods
Independent theoretical preparation. Application of knowledge acquired to selected texts, discussions leading to definitions of problems and finding ways to their solutions; forming own opinions. Active work during the whole course is expected. The course cannot be completed without the participation in classes.
