- Course objectives
- The course is devoted to the literary production of Jan Neruda, main representative of "The May school". During the course there will be presented author‘s poetry, prose, dramas and critical works (from comparative point of view).
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- enlarge their knowledge of issues concerning the 19th century of Czech literature;
- to get a general background about Neruda‘s activity in constituting program of „the May school;
- learn about the dynamic in the development of the Czech literature in the second part of 19th century;
- are familiar with specialized literature and methodology;
- check their interpretative skills;
- are familiar with basic findings and methodological procedures of related disciplines;
- are able to apply acquired knowledge and skills when creating scientific texts. - Syllabus
- Each class will be devoted to the books of Jan Neruda and other authors; concrete specification will be given during the first class (according to the students’ experience).

- Students will acquire Neruda’s way of writing, they will analyze his works in the context of the whole „May school“and they will be able to interpret his works.

- Teaching methods
- Methods of presentation, application, interpretation and discussion are used in the seminar. Students present their knowledge and skills in oral and written form.
