Course objectives
Literary Seminar is a series of three consecutive courses whose aim is to introduce students to the basics of literary theory and analysis. Every part of the course is focused on one of three basic forms of fiction: poetry, prose and drama. Emphasis is placed on independent work of the students, whose role is through papers, presentations and discussion posts familiarize his classmates with his analysis of the classical canonical and recent works of Swedish literature. Part of the curriculum is the formal properties formations and variations of said genre of literary forms. Literary Seminar I: Poetry Literary Seminar is in the order of the first in a series of articles focusing on literary theory and analysis. Students there learn various approaches to the study of literature and poetry specific characteristics of different genres. Apply the lessons learned in analyzing the lyrical text of your choice. The theoretical knowledge can be used by the students in working with various forms of lyric, epic and dramatic texts.

  • Literary genres in various Scandinavian literatures. Novels and short stories. August Strindberg - Sweden, Karin Blixen - Denmark, Novels and short stories Sigurd Hoel - Norway, Halldor Laxness - Island. The novel as a document: Per Olov Enquist Poetry and its leaders: Karin Boye - Sweden, Tarjei Vesaas - Norway. Swedish poetry and European modernism: Gunnar Ekelöf Poetry and drama: Lars Noreen - Sweden. Poetry and drama: Jon Fosse - Norway.
