- Course objectives
- - To present history and recent cultural and social issues of the First nations. - To discuss the potentialities of future development of the First nations in Canada. - Compare different approaches towards minorities in Europe and in America.
- Syllabus
- 1) History survey of the First nations in Canada, contacts with the Europeans. 2) Typology and tribes. 3) Current issues, problems of the Federal government in Canada. 4) The Huron (Iroquois), Inuit, Attkamekw, Montagnais etc tribes. 5) Territorial conflicts and court cases. 6) Literary and other cultural expresions of the First nations.
