The lecture is aimed especially at students simultaneously taking the course CJJ07 Proto-Slavonic.

Course objectives
Main aims of the lecture are:
- characterization of phonological and morphological structures of Proto-Slavonic – the reconstructed proto-language of the Slavs,
- main developmental processes that led to the origin of Slavonic languages,
- classification of contemporary Slavonic languages,
- elementary orientation is scholarly sources relating to Slavonic studies.
Learning outcomes
Having participated in the course, students will be able:
- to explain processes in language that led to the origin of Proto-Slavonic after the split of the Indo-European proto-language,
- to classify contemporary Slavonic languages on both diachronic (historically-comparative) and synchronic (typological, areal or sociolinguistic) bases,
- to describe historical circumstances of the origin of the first Slavonic language,
- to explain the origin and development of Slavonic systems of script.

  • 5. From Proto-Indo European language to Proto-Slavonic.
  • 6. Baltic-Slavonic language unit.
  • 7. Proto-Slavonic phonology.
  • 8. Proto-Slavonic inflectional morphology (declension).
  • 9. Proto-Slavonic inflectional morphology (conjugation).
  • 10. Dialectal differentiation of Proto-Slavonic.
