- Course objectives
- The lecture deals with the development of Standard Czech not as of an abstract system, but deals with characteristic features of Czech texts from different periods of its development - from the 9th century (in Moravia and later in Bohemia) till the beginning of the 3rd millennium. The aim of the course: the students should gain a complex view of the Czech language including its graphics.
- Learning outcomes
- Having participated in the course, students will be able:
- to identify and summarize significant features of the main historical periods of Czech,
- to describe stylistic and functional span of written (standard) Czech in the individual stages of its development,
- to explain conditions in which Modern Standard Czech originated,
- to determine and describe trends in development forming contemporary Standard Czech. - Syllabus

- Lecture. The lectures have the form of the teacher’s explanations, accompanied by detailed handouts, if advanced topics are dealt with.

- The exam proves the students’ capability to understand various aspects of the standard language development, i.e. to be aware of the continuity and mutual relationships of its characteristic features.
