Course objectives
This course deals with postwar Dutch and Flemish poetry. In every class a literary movement (e.g. the “Vijftigers”) or a certain phenomenon (e.g. “stadsdichters”) is considered and studied in depth by means of concrete texts.
Main objective of this course is not only that students acquire knowledge about poets and their works after 1945, but also that they learn how to formulate and substantiate an interpretation with a correct use of technical terms relating literary history and literary theory. During the classes, as well as after each class, students get written assignments (esp. analysis of texts). Feedback is given. Knowledge relating literary history is evaluated by means of multiple choice tests.
