Course objectives
Didactics of Psychology as one of the key disciplines in the preparation of psychology teachers provides students with an overview of current knowledge of the theory and practice of teaching the subject of psychology in secondary schools. The aim is to create a base of basic theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary for the preparation and implementation of teaching psychology in various types of secondary schools.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course Didactics of Psychology I the student will be able to
- define the subject of didactics of psychology and explain the relationship between general didactics and didactics of psychology
- apply the knowledge of general didactics to the didactics of psychology
- characterize and define the basic didactic categories - concepts with a focus on possible specifics in the teaching of the subject of psychology
- characterise the basic organisational forms of teaching and justify their use in teaching psychology at secondary school
- propose and justify variations of teaching methods for the realisation of learning objectives in a chosen subject of psychology; be aware of the advantages and pitfalls of the application of individual teaching methods
- formulate learning objectives to make them functional, and work with learning objectives in the classroom
- design adequate methods of assessing student performance and outcomes in the subject of psychology
Syllabus
  • 1. Didactics of psychology as a frontier discipline, the emergence of didactics of psychology - prerequisites for its constitution. The subject of didactics of psychology. Relationship between general didactics and didactics of psychology.
  • 2. Teaching of psychology in the framework of secondary education. Specifics of teaching the subject of psychology. The current concept of psychology in secondary school education. Specific objectives of psychology in the educational process. Association of teachers of psychology. Ethical issues and principles in the teaching of psychology.
  • 3. Target group - the secondary school student as an agent of teaching.
  • 4. Psychology teacher. Preparation of teachers of psychology. Professional competences of a psychology teacher. Further education of teachers in the course of their professional career. Teacher self-reflection and self-diagnosis.
  • 5. Psychological foundations of didactic principles (principles). Basic system of didactic principles and their application in the subject of psychology.
  • 6. Teaching lesson, organizational forms of teaching psychology in secondary schools.
  • 7. Methods of teaching psychology, including digital means in remote and contact teaching, methods of online teaching and ways of developing IT competences of students.
  • 8. Didactic means in teaching psychology.
  • 9. Educational objectives in the subject of psychology.
  • 10. Assessment and classification in the subject of psychology. Methods of evaluation. Standards and target requirements in the subject of psychology in secondary schools.
