- Course objectives
- Main objective of the course is to provide students with basic techniques of working with literary texts. Emphasis is put mainly on the application of analytical and interpretative skills and on the practice of analytical writing about literary texts (poetry, fiction, drama). The course is offered to students of German, Dutch and Scandinavian studies.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
- identify and name the basic elements of literary texts,
- assign these elements to the basic levels of literary texts (situation, content, form, metaphors, etc.),
- analyze the function of specific structures in the text,
- write elementary essays (short interpretations). - Syllabus
- 1. Situation of utterance in poetry and fiction.
- 2. Level of content in poetry and fiction.
- 3. Structure and forms of literary texts.
- 4. Metaphorics.
- 5. Narrator: who speaks?
- 6. Perspective: who sees?
- 7. Composition of argumentations and interpretations on texts of fiction.
