- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to introduce students to informal logic and the basics of critical thinking.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to:
understand key notions of informal logic,
identify argumentative forms of discourse,
identify and assess basic types of deductive and inductive arguments,
identify logical fallacies. - Syllabus
- 1. The concepts of logic, informal logic and the basic concepts of logic and critical thinking (argument, premise, conclusion, justification, validity, soundness, etc.)
- 2. Identification of argumentative forms of discourse and their distinctive features;
- 3. Deduction, induction and typical arguments.
- 4. Argument diagrams, identification of implicit assumptions.
- 5. Assessment of key deductive and inductive arguments.
- 6. Logical fallacies.

- Written exam - approx. 8 questions - min. pass level 60 percent. Compulsory attendance.
