Úvodem k přednášce jsou posluchači seznámováni s funkční problematikou slovních druhů a forem slova, se stavbou slova a rozdělením slov do slovních tříd. Dále se probírají gramatické kategorie jednotlivých slovních druhů, substantiv, adjektiv, zájmen a číslovek (morfologie slovesa spadá do dalšího semestru). U všech slovních druhů je upozorňováno na možnost jazykového transferu nebo naopak interference mateřského jazyka nerodilých uživatelů němčiny. Velká pozornost je z tohoto hlediska věnována jevům, které nemají v češtině symetrické protějšky (použití členu v němčině, rodu a číslu u substantiv atd.).
