Základní faktografie a nástin hlavních dějinných událostí počínaje obdobím Brazilského království. Další významná období jsou vymezena vznikem císařství, snahami abolicionistů a republikánů a vznikem jednotného státu. V rámci každé epochy bude pozornost věnována též ekonomicko-sociální situaci v zemi, stejně jako kulturní historii (význmané umělecké a literární směry.
