Course objectives
After completing the course the students should be able to describe, explain and should be familiar with the area of building traditions in the lowland regions of the determined geographical area and should be able to put them into broader view – the use of clay as building material, the construction of the walls of residential and farm buildings, etc. The class will include a field trip to the central Moravia region and into an architectural conservation office.
Syllabus
  • Clay as a traditional building material.
  • The evolution of clay house and its geographical distribution in Czech territory.
  • The technique of building clay constructions and its changes.
  • Folk house under the influence of social and economic changes in the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • Clay as a principal and complementary building material, its processing technology.
  • Renovation of clay architecture at present.
