Course objectives
The lecture deals with the history of the French speaking inhabitants of Canada from the beginning till the present days. The single chapters of the course are dedicated to the political and institutional aspects of the historical development as well as to the cultural questions, especially in relation to the French and English speaking areas.

  • 1. The aboriginal inhabitants of North America 2. Europeans in Canada. 3. French colonization. 4. Canada – the English colonies and the status of Quebec. 5. The beginnings of a federal Canada. 5. Canada in the 20th century and the question of nationality. 6. The Quiet Revolution. 7. Multicultural Canada.
