Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should: • Have understanding of basics of publishing industry • Know the basics of design, typesetting, proof-reading and business connected tasks in publishing • Understand consecutiveness of processes and be able to consider quality and rentability of the work • Get basic knowledge of materials and technologies in printed and electronic media • Draw up a project of a viable publication
Syllabus
  • Economics – elementary principles of book, magazine and web publishing, taget groups and competitors • Books marketing, financial planning, distribution costs, author fees, royalties and taxes • Printing technogy, CD and DVD production, E-publishing (html, flash, PDF) • Editorial work, preparing content, adjusting graphics and typografical basics • Proofreading and typesetting, illustrations, photos (theoretical background), adapting graphics for the target group • Practice, excursion • Presentation of projects
