Course objectives
At the end of the course, student will be able to:
understand the context of education in the learning society;
explain andragogical, pedagogical, sociological and economic view of the learning society;
use the information in formulating and implementing educational projects;
interpret trends and challenges of learning society to current practice;
apply learning technologies into lifelong learning practice;
explain the benefits of innovations and trends in education.
Syllabus
  • 1. Information Society. Historical, cultural, economical and political context. Importance and role of education. Contemporary cognition of information (knowledge or learning) society in andragogy, pedagogy, sociology and economy.
    2. Education in Learning society. Globalisation and education. Technological and demografic development and changes in the labour market. New curriculum, qualifications, skills and competences.
    3. Lifelong learning idea and concept. Formal, non-formal and informal learning. The reforms of educational systems. Theory of miseducation and futher education critics.
    4. Human and Learning society. Individualized and personalized learning. Alternative education, deschooling, edupunk, edutainment and gamification.
    5. Inovations in education. Heutagogy and cybergogy. Learning technologies, edutools, visualization and infographics, databases and learning resources.
    6. Open education. Open universities, open technologies and open data. OER Open educational resources.
    7. Universities and Learning society. The future of university education, moocs and online learning. Certification and Labour market needs. The economical and political aspects of university education.
    8. Learning organisations. Knowledge economy and knowledge management. The implementation of learning into work. ERP systems, swarming and networking in organisations.
    9. Learning communities and collaborative learning. Learning communities models, online communities and virtual worlds. The examples of good practice.
    10. Commerce education. Distance and blended learning. Educational market, social network learning. E-learning and m-learning.
    11. New professions in Learning society. Knowledge worker, data curator, e-tutor and knowledge entrepreneurship.
    12. The hacking of education. The deinstitucialisation and ultra-individualisation of learning. Hackerspace as an alternative learning space, peer-learning.
    13. The future and perspective of Learning Society. Artifical intelligence, machine learning and big data. Virtual ecosystems and cybernetic society.

Assessment methods
oral examination, essay, essay discussion 70% presence on lectures and webinars is required. Oral examination consists of answering 2 questions. Set of examination questions consists of 30 questions from course content. Discussion on essay is part of oral examination. Essay (min. 5 pages) of course content topics.
