Course objectives
This course will provide the students with a basic insight into the genres and structure of the literature of the ancient Near East.

  • Heroic epics of Sumerian literature.
  • Hymns to goods and temples.
  • Royal hymns.
  • Historiographical and narrative texts.
  • Lammentatons.
  • Law codes and judiciary documents.
  • Documents of civil law.
  • International diplomatic documents.
  • Correspondence.
