Course objectives
In this course we examine the cultural identity of Flanders / Belgium in a historical perspective and in comparison with the Netherlands. Flemish literature and art history are being dealt with; influential works are discussed into detail. The last part of the course focuses on Flemish cinema: a historical overview is provided, the most important styles are discussed and illustrated by a number of short films and one feature film.
