This course is intended for full-time students who have an intermediate/upper-intermediate knowledge of English. An exemption to study the course CJVA2B can be exceptionally granted to the part-time students who apply for it should the capacity of the seminar groups allow.

Course objectives
The course is aiming at achieving the B2 level (based on the Common European Framework of Reference) of English language competence. At the end of this course students should be able to understand the main ideas of relatively complex texts on both concrete and academic/professional topics, including discussions in their field of specialisation. Students should be able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. They should be able to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of academic/professional subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will be able to: give a short presentation dealing with topic related to their studies and discuss the topic write an abstract of their presentation write a short argumentative text answer questions about a reading or listening text from academic context.

Teaching methods
Mini-presentations prepared by students, projects, discussions in class, reading assignments, grammar exercices
Assessment methods
The course requires seminars attendance and completing homework assigments. The course is completed by an exam at B2 level according to CEFR which consists of a written test and an oral presentation. The written part of the test includes reading and listening comprehension, tests the knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar and ability to write an argumentative text. The oral part of the exam is in the form of an academic presentation on an academic/professional topic. A written abstract of the presentation is required too.
