- Course objectives
- The reasoned pathway through the fundamental morpho-syntactic structures of early Italian will guide students towards - a full awareness of the linguistic processes (and of linguistic change) involved in the most ancient phases of the Italian language; - a full mastery of the tools (including digital tools) of linguistic research on ancient Italian; - the ability to use these tools (especially the digital ones) to carry out autonomous research and analysis on specific linguistic facts.
- Learning outcomes
- - Recognise linguistic phenomena and processes operating in the synchrony of ancient Italian; - recognise some of the main linguistic phenomena and processes that operated in the diachrony of early Italian - recognise (broadly) the structural affinities and divergences between different Italian vernaculars; - know how to use the research and analysis tools of the discipline (textual archives, digital databases, etc.); - to carry out small research projects independently using these tools.

- Students will analyse a specific phenomenon (to be agreed) of the ancient language using the research and analysis tools they have experienced during the course. They will then prepare a written report, which will be handed in in advance and then presented orally with the support of a handout or PPT.
