Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course Portuguese Linguistic II is to acquaint students with the historical development of the Portuguese language, from the Vulgar Latin to the present. The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with phonetic, morphological, syntactic and semantic changes that occurred in individual historical phases: from the pre-Romanesque substrate to the old Portuguese inclusive. During the seminar acquaints, the basic rules of phonological development and their phonological interpretation are explained. We also summarize the principles of morphological development and, to the extent allowed by time, take into account the development of the Portuguese syntax, the development of the Portuguese vocabulary including onomastics and the development of the Portuguese dialects. Thus, the main focus is on the traditional emphasis on phonology and morphology. Attention will also be paid to the specifics of different variants of the contemporary Portuguese language, based on the analysis of authentic recordings of spoken Portuguese (CD - Documentos Autênticos do Português falado). The student should be able to define basic concepts concerning etymology. In the analysis of specific texts and exercises, apply these terms and draw appropriate conclusions from the observed phenomena.
