Course objectives
The goal of the diploma seminar is to assist the student in completing the diploma thesis and prepare for its successful defence. The diploma thesis addresses a scholarly issue at a level appropriate to the Bachelor's degree.
Learning outcomes
After the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to
- carry out systematic independent research at bachelor's degree level;
- understand and process relevant sources;

- choose a suitable citation system and use it consistently throughout the text of the bachelor's thesis;
- reflect the supervisor's feedback and comments;
- write a comprehensible coherent text that meets the standards of academic writing;
- to present her/his unfinished diploma thesis at the diploma seminar and to adequately respond to the comments of the seminar participants.
Syllabus
  • The course consists of individual consultations with the thesis supervisor, depending on the specific demands of the degree program and thesis´ topic, and participation at the Thesis Seminar of the Department of Classical Studies.
  • The seminar consists of:
  • - presentations of individual chapters and a work-in-progress of the diploma thesis;
  • - discussion and feedback for individual students.

Teaching methods
Individual advisor-student tutorial in the methodology of writing the diploma thesis and the progress of the student. Presentation of the work-in-progress in the Thesis Seminar. Discussion on presentations of other students.
Assessment methods
The advisor awards the course-unit credit for the semester on the basis of examination of particular parts of diploma-thesis and students ability to work out the advisors comments on it.
