Course objectives
The aim of the course is to open to students the topic of basic methods and techniques used for scientific researches of public and researches in museum space. The course offers information about publications to the topic and examples of museological czech and foreign researches and new trends. At the end of this course students should be able to use gained knowledge to their own research in the space of museum and cultural institutions.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- apply scientific methods and techniques in the field of museological research;
- prepare and communicate their own research project in the form of publication or conference presentation.
Syllabus
  • 1. Scientific research in museology – examples of approaches of several authors and research institutions, typology according to used methods (historically-comparative, theoretical, empirical). 2. Basic approaches to scientific research (quantitative, qualitative), topics of research and used research methods (questionaire, interview, group interview, test, text analysis, observation, evaluation, experiment etc.). 3. Procedure of preparation and realisation of scientific research. Steps of researcher.

Assessment methods
At the end of this course students prepare scientific museological text on selected topic that will be prepared for publishing. There is a space for articles submitting in phases of content and formal preparations before type-setting of article (in specified deadlines) in the elf course of the same name.
