Course objectives
The syllabus of the course is subject to change. Especially cross-sectional topics pertaing to all main fields of Ancient History (Ancient Near East, Greece, Rome, the intermediate period between Antiquity and the Middle Ages), including the later reception, will be discussed; the aim of the course is also to give an up-date on the research of individual lecturers, who will take turns during the semester, to the students.
Learning outcomes
The student will:
- gain the latest information from the research of the lecturers and will get acquainted with the methods used by the lecturers in order to acquire the information;
- be capable of better characterizing Ancient History as a whole (the development of governement systems, societies, changes in thought, religion etc.);
- improve his/her abilities in the field of professional and substantive discussion.
Syllabus
  • The lectures will be divided into several blocks focusing on particular fields of the development of the ancient world, according to chronological order. The lectures will be of interactive character: the students will be e. g. asked to formulate a problem that will be being addressed, to discuss a topic, to criticize the methods of the lecturer, to sum up individually the discussed topic etc.
  • The rotation of lecturers will serve the purpose of discussing certain larger thematic units, e. g. the development of rule in Antiquity, the development of human rights, the attitude to foreigners and so forth, and its aim is also to ensure, that the lectures are beneficial to all already specialized students of the Master's degree program.
Literature
  • Seznam literatury bude obměňován podle zvolených témat a předán studentům vždy na začátku semestru.
  • The list of literature will be subject to change according to discussed topics and will be handed to the students at the beginning of each semester.
Teaching methods
Lectures of specialized scholars with requested or spontaneous inputs of students to the discussed topic.
Assessment methods
Fulfillment of ongoing tasks, final discussion.
