- Course objectives
- The aim of the study course Methodology and techniques of educational research is to deepen and extend the acquired methodological knowledge and skills with emphasis on planning and preparation of methods and techniques in the frame of educational research project. Students will get acquainted with the classification and specifics of selected research methods and techniques their are used both in quantitative and qualitative research design; acquire the skills to prepare the selected research tools and assess their quality; students will learn to process and analyze the data.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to: propose a methodology for quantitative or qualitative research; to evaluate the strenghts and weaknesses of selected research methods and techniques; prepare interview and questionnaire; perform basic data analysis.

- Science, scientific research, types of research, phase of empirical research.
- Quantitative research - specification; variables, hypotheses, testing, verification, operationalization, measurement; sampling.
- Qualitative research - specification; qualitative research phases, designs; sampling, control of quality.
- Classification of research methods and techniques; criteria for the choice of methods and techniques.
- Methods and techniques of questioning - questionnaire, interview, group interview, focus group.
- Methods and techniques of attitudinal examination - scaling, semantic differential, q-methodology, projective methods.
- Methods and techniques of edutacional and social interaction - observation.
- Methods and techniques of interdisciplinary and group relations - sociometry.
- Experiment in educational research.
- Content analysis, document analysis.
- Analysis and interpretation of quantitative data.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures and seminars. The lectures are based mainly on the explanation form, in the seminars there is used individual and group work, problem solving and group project.
- Assessment methods
- (1) Acive participation in seminars; (2) seminar project - proposal of educational research project and example of data analysis; (3) written exam (the scope for the examination is identical to the syllabus). Requirements and calssification are described in detail in the ELF study system.
