Applicants enrol in courses of Czech for foreigners via an application form submitted at the Department of Czech for Foreigners (not via the MU Information System).

Course Enrolment Limitations

The course is offered to students of any study field.

Course objectives

The course content is based on the level of Czech language proficiency determined by the entrance test
The entrance test takes place on the first day of the semester (Department of Czech for Foreigners, Arna Nováka 1, building D, 4th floor).

The main aim of the course is the automatization of Czech vocabulary at the B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as well as its development and reinforcement in both spoken and written communication.
Other objectives include:
- interpretation of texts based on listening and reading, and written expression when creating various texts using stylistic techniques
- working with authentic texts (analysis from a lexical and stylistic perspective).

Learning outcomes (in Czech)

Účastník kurzu získá větší pohotovost při vyjadřování a po úspěšném absolvování předmětu bude schopen se aktivně vyjadřovat písemně i ústně o daných tématech za užití pokročilejšího lexikálního aparátu (B2 dle Společného evropského referenčního rámce pro jazyky).
Účastník kurzu bude rovněž schopen analyzovat specifické jevy současného jazyka v lexikální rovině dle probíraných témat.
Důraz je kladen na schopnost porovnání nabyté slovní zásoby s lexikem mateřského jazyka.

Teaching methods

The theoretical lecture in the seminar will be complemented by practical exercises.
The lessons will include working with read and listened-to texts as well as writing compositions on assigned topics (10 per semester).
Use of the problem-based method and guided discussion. Group and individual work. Interpretation of Czech texts (both oral and written).
Tuition conducted by the teacher (theoretical preparation), reading comprehension, listening comprehension, dialogue, independent speech, individual work, pair work and team work, homework, additional exercises (oral and written), translation, work with the textbook and exercises for a given level of knowledge of the Czech language, pronunciation exercises, language games, online exercises, continuous assessment, interpretation of the read and heard text.

Assessment methods

The course is completed with a final written examination.
Course participant must have 75 % active class attendance and must submit all ten written compositions to be allowed to take the final examination.
Late arrival to in-person classes or joining an online class late also counts as an absence. Only absence due to illness (backed up by a medical confirmation) does not count.
Active attendance means readiness for teaching (completed homework, having a textbook and study materials, prepared presentation, etc.) and fulfillment of tasks set by the teacher.
