- Course objectives
- Students become acquainted with Czech travelogues on the Balkans and their authors. In this way they learn about concrete situation and living culture of the Balkans from the 15th until the 20th century: everyday culture, ethnic and religious conditions etc. They master the fundamentals of critical work with this source.
- Syllabus
- Personality of a traveler. Travelogue as a literary genre. Travelogue as a historical source. Analysis of the following travellers’ testimonies and experiences of the Balkans: Martin Kabátník, Bohuslav Hasištejnský z Lobkovic, Václav Vratislav z Mitrovic, Kryštof Harant z Polžic, Vítězslav Hálek, Konstantin Jireček, Josef Holeček, Ludvík, Kuba, Josef Jakub Toužimský, Emanuel Fajt, Alois Knotek, Adolf Černý, František Přibil, Jan Svátek, Viktor Dvorský, Jiří Václav Daneš, Vladimír Sís, Stanislav Kostka Neumann, Miroslav Zikmund, Milena Holcová.
