- Course objectives
- The main objective represents analysis of the most important masterpieces of Greek art of Classical and Hellenistic periods. Students have to write an essay on an assigned topic and to present an oral presentation to gain the credit.
- Syllabus
- Development and characteristics of the Greek art in the Classical and Helenistic periods - i. e. from 490/80 B. C. to 31. B.C.
- Achievements of classical esthetic and ulterior innovations in the 4th century B.C. and Hellenistic period and their new expresionism and dynamics.
- Late Hellenistic art and late Roman culture.
- Transition of Archaic art into Early classic - achievements of anatomy and movement.
- Ideal typology of human body and its aesthetic.
- Athens in the 2nd half of the 5th century, Fidias, Polykleitos.
- Manierism of the transition between the 5th and the 4th century.
- 4th century: Skopas, Leochares, Bryaxis, Praxiteles and Lysippos and their personal styles.
- Complexity of the Hellenistic expression.
- Late Hellenistic classicism and the formation of Roman art.
