Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand the history of Byzantine Empire The subject matter is divided into four chapters of development.

  • Late Antiquity or Early Byzantium? The problem of continuity or discontinuity of historical development Byzantine „Dark Age“ – transformation of East-Roman society – Extinction, decline or transformation of cities? Slavic expansion to the Balcans. Byzantium and Great Moravia: Cyril and Methodius mission between Constantinople and Rome.
