Course objectives
The aim of the doctoral examination is to verify that the student has appropriate knowledge in the field of his PhD study and that he/she has satisfactory theoretical training for further research. Students will prepare theoretical analysis of five problem-oriented topics from the field of medieval Latin philology that are not identical with the topic of their dissertation.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful passing of the examination the student will have detailed overview of the given research field and subsequently will be able to use the acquired knowledge of methodological applipcations in the context of his/her own research and study.
Syllabus
  • Consultation with the supervisor and selection of five topics for the oral examination
  • Independent preparation of the selected topics (3-5 pages each, including references to secondary literature)
  • Submission of the topics in writing to the examination committee
  • Presentation and discussion about the selected themes during an oral examination: the examination committee will choose three out of the proposed five topics which the applicant will elaborate on in detail (ca 10 pages) and which will be discussed in detail during the oral examination)
