Course objectives
The aim of the course on Pragmatic Linguistics is to familiarize students with the basic concepts and theories of pragmatic linguistics with an emphasis on Spanish pragmalinguistics. The subject is supplemented by discussions based on student contributions and analyses of specific texts, which show the practical functioning of the phenomena described by the given discipline.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to describe basic theory of pragmalinguistics; will be able to identify verbal strategies used in different types of discourse; will be able to analyze linguistic expressions from the pragmatic-linguistic point of view and critically evaluate them.

Teaching methods
Lecture, seminar, homework, class discussion. Lecture: exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific text, proceeding from diverse registers. Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. During their presentations students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of a specific text. E-learning reforcement.
Assessment methods
Credit: active participation and attendance is required (80%) as well as oral examination; elaboration of a paper dedicated to one of the topics discussed in this course.
