- Prerequisites (in Czech)
- Vzhledem k unikátnosti většiny metod v této oblasti není nezbytné vzdělávání v biostatistických metodách, předpokladem je pouze základní znalost principů statistických testů a provádění odhadů a znalost matematiky v rozsahu střední školy. Naopak nutným předpokladem je znalost populační biologie a ekologie.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Molecular Biology and Genetics (programme PřF, M-BI)
- Molecular Biology and Genetics (programme PřF, N-BI)
- General Biology (programme PřF, M-BI, specialization Ekotoxikology)
- General Biology (programme PřF, N-BI, specialization Ekotoxikologie)
- Course objectives
- At the end of the advanced course the student is able to: Prepare dataset for analysis of biodiversity; Visualize structure of biological communities and their biodiverzity; Describe biodiversity using biodiversity indices and their variability; Apply species abundance models including niche oriented models; Make decisions about correct usage of multivariate analysis of biodiversity data; Interpret results of biodiversity analysis both from the computational and ecological point o view; Have overview of available software for analysis of biodiversity data.
- Syllabus
- The term biodiversity. Dual concept of biodiversity. Functional, genetic, structural and taxonomical diversity. Biodiversity in graphs and data. Possibilities for biodiversity papers.
- Indices of biodiversity. Species richness, distribution of abundances in biological communities
- Equitability and its evaluation. Confidence intervals for biodiversity indices. Rarefaction and other techniques for estimation of species richness.
- Species abundance curves and their analysis, Q statistics. Species abundance curves in comparison to other techniques.
- Species abundances models, their types, algorithms and graphical representation.. "Niche-oriented species - abundance modelling"
- Computer simulation and its usage for analysis of biodiversity. Bootstrap and Jackknife.
- Parametric and non-parametric methods in analysis of biodiversity, multivariate analysis of biodiversity data.
- Fractionation of biological communities and the subsequent analysis of biodiversity of their subunits.
- Markov chains in biodiversity analysis.
