Course objectives
At the end of the course the students are able to: Understand and explain developmental processes; Identify structures formed during embryogenesis; Interpret and explain recent knowledge and problems in regenerative and reproductive medicine; Formulate and discuss hypothesis about ontogenesis and evolution.
Syllabus
  • Embryology, pract. course 2 hours weekly. Regenerative abilities in animals. Reproduction: cell reproduction the basic for the growth and development of organisms. Asexual reproduction of Protozoa and Animalia. Sexual reproduction and differences, gametogenesis, fecondation and fertilisation. Alternating reproductive cycles. Ontogenesis - embryonic, postembryonic direct and indirect development in main animal phylla. Planned is the excurssion into a special embryology laboratory or laboratory of assisted reproduction. Intensive searching for the newest data in the stem cell science will be demanded.

Assessment methods
Students need to attend all tutorial sessions and have a presentation on selected embryology topic. Keeping records from lessons is compulsory.
