Abstract
The aim of this seminar is to support future teachers of mathematics by giving them some concrete algebraic examples to explain the usefulness of mathematics to their pupils/students.
Learning outcomes
After this subject a student will be able to explain some practical algebraic applications to his pupils/students.

  • Compass and ruler construction: impossibility of squaring of a circle, trisection of an angle, doubling of a cube

  • Iteration processes: Perron and Frobenius theory for primitive matrices

Semester paper explaining to a reader on the level of a secondary school student a chosen example of a practical algebraic application.
