- Course objectives
- Review of vertebrate fauna of the Czech Republic (lampreys - Petromyzontida, sturgeons - Acipenseriformes, bony fishes - Teleostei, amphibians - Lissamphibia and Amniota - reptiles, birds and mammals). Autochthonous and allochthonous species as well as extinct, endangered and invasive ones - their European distribution, distributional status in the Czech Republic, threats and protection.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to understand the recent distribution of particular species occurring in the area of the Czech Repulic in relation to Central European vertebrate fauna;
to understand and explain the life history of particular vertebrate species;
to evaluate on the basis of knowledge of distribution and ecological demands of species the level of threats (by Red lists) and rate of protection of rare species (by Czech law). - Learning outcomes
- Knowledge of status, position in phylogenetic systems, distribution, occurrence and ecology of partial species focused on Czech fauna related to situation in Europe. Spatio-temporal changes in distribution and ecological demands.
- Syllabus
- Review of vertebrate fauna of the Czech Republic - position in modern phylogenetic systematics of vertebrates
- Biogeography of aquatic and terrestrial Czech vertebrates
- Distributional status, ecology, threats and protection of species in particular systematic groups of Czech vertebrates: lampreys - Petromyzontida, sturgeons - Acipenseriformes, bony fishes - Teleostei, amphibians - Lissamphibia and Amniota - reptiles, birds and mammals.
