Abstract
Exercises and problems accompanying the course C4020 Physical Chemistry II. The course objective is to develop quantitative skills for interpreting the behavior of matter by physical theories with an emphasis on the relationships between the microscopic structure and macroscopic properties of matter.
Learning outcomes
Students solve computational exercises from the fields of electrochemistry, basic level of quantum chemistry and statistical themodynamics, followed by the kinetic theory of ideal gas and chemical kinetics.
Key topics
Seminar topics follow the lecture program, clarifying lecture (C4020) material and giving the opportunity to develop a critical understanding of the themes and concepts.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Students take turns in pairs at the whiteboard to solve individual exercises, while the instructor guides them toward the correct solution. Meanwhile, the rest of the class works on the tasks independently or draws partial inspiration from the solution on the board.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
1. During the entire semester of C4040, four credit tests will be administered (with 25 minutes allocated for each), and a minimum score of 50% on each test is required to obtain the credit. The scores will be posted in the IS via the notebook. The regular dates for the credit tests are specified in the course organizational guidelines.

a) Make-up tests in case of absence from a regular date:

Absence from a test: In accordance with the MU Study and Examination Regulations, a permitted unexcused absence does not affect the obligations arising from continuous assessments (credit tests). If a valid excuse is not submitted to the Office for Studies within 5 working days from the date of the test, taking a make-up test on an alternative date is not possible. The student will receive zero points, and the opportunity to pass the test is postponed until the resit period during the examination period.
Excused absence and alternative date during the semester: If a student cannot attend the regular date for valid and excused reasons, it is possible to take the test in another seminar group (subject to capacity limitations), or by individual arrangement on an alternative date no later than 14 days after the excuse is registered in the MU IS.
b) Credit test resits:
During the first week of the examination period, a first resit date for the credit test will be scheduled. A second resit date will be scheduled over the course of the examination period. Students only resit the specific test in which they failed to achieve the 50% score, not all tests.
2. To successfully complete the seminar, 85% attendance at teaching sessions is required, which corresponds to a maximum of two absences (attendance is recorded in the MU IS):
In accordance with the MU Study and Examination Regulations, one unexcused absence per semester is tolerated for attendance purposes, but not for the purposes of continuous tests (see section 1).
  • The second absence must be properly excused through the Office for Studies, which maintains records of excuses in the MU IS (excuses must be submitted no later than 5 working days).
  • Exceeding the limit of two absences (even if properly excused) or recording more than one unexcused absence results in an automatic failure to meet the course requirements, with no entitlement to resit dates.
