Abstract
The last one of the introductory courses of the Mathematics block of the programme. The course aims at development of basic skills and knowledge in all four main approaches: algebraic, geometric, combinatorial, infinitesimal, as well as ability to enjoy the computer assisted solutions to problems. This part focuses on elementary Number Theory, Algebra, and selected applications.
Learning outcomes
ability to combine diverse areas of mathematics in new problems;
understanding the essence and role of mathematical language;
understanding of moderately complicated algorithmic tools of algebraic and combinatorial character
Key topics
elements of number theory (including applications to encryption algorithms);
selected topics in algebra (Boolean algebras and lattices and posets, divisibility in rings of polynomials, comments towards group theory and finite fields);
selected applications (self-correcting codes, systems of polynomial equations);
elements of logic
Study resources and literature
    required literature

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
essentially asynchronous approach;
complemented by synchronous communication with the tutor upon agreement
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
Written and oral exam. The written exam is for max 40 points. For successful examination (the grade at least E), the student needs in total 20 points or more.
