Course objectives
After finishing the course, students should be able to understand and explain:
1. main subject, methods and specializations in palaeoecology 2. space and time in palaeoecology 3. most commonly studied habitats with stratigraphical sediments in Europe (lakes, mires) 4. basics of plant macrofossil analysis 5. basics of pollen analysis, pollen morfology and determination 6. history of migration of main European tree species 7. vegetation and landscapes in Europe and human impact in the last 15 000 yrs. 8. history of crops 9. basics of palaeoecological reconstructions at continental and global scale

  • 1. Subject, methods and specializations of palaeoecology.
  • 2. Space and time in palaeoecology.
  • 3. Most studied habitats of European palaeoecological studies (mires, lakes).
  • 4. Basics of plant macrofossil analysis.
  • 5. Basics of pollen analysis.
  • 6. Basics of pollen morphology and pollen determination.
  • 7. History and migration of main European tree species.
  • 8. Vegetation and landscapes in the last 15000 years in Europe.
  • 9. History of human impact during the last 15 000 yrs.
  • 10. History of crops.
  • 11. Palaeoecological reconstructions at continental and global scale.
