Course objectives
After the succesfull completion of course, students should be able to: - discuss the problematics of all types of biorhythms - analyse in details 24-hour, seasonal and annual cycles, which afects significantly all physiological events - make use of information to design experiments appropriately - to evaluate clicical and generally biological data in light of rhytmicity
Syllabus
  • Definition of basic terms.
  • Metodologies used in studying and assesing rhytmic processes.
  • ndogenous rhythms: Biological clock in general - mechanisms, Endogenous rhythms without external correlates, Endogenous rhythms with external correlates (including circadian, sexual and population cycles)
  • External rhythms: Photoperiodicity, Thermoperiodicity, The effect of food and environment, Meteorotropic influences, Cosmic influences.
  • Rhytmic processes and animal navigation.
  • Exogenous rhythms: 24-hour rhythms, Lunar rhythms, Seasonal rhythms.
  • Conclusions on biorhythms.
